ScreenSafe
A more privacy-conscious screen experience.
ScreenSafe is a privacy alert app for Android built around one everyday situation: using a phone in a crowded place where the screen is visible to strangers. The concept is an on-device awareness layer that watches for faces in front of the display and gives a quiet, immediate signal so you can decide what to do. Everything the app needs to make that judgement is intended to stay on the device.
The problem
Shoulder surfing is ordinary and unremarkable. It happens on trains, in queues, in waiting rooms and in open-plan offices, and the person being watched usually notices nothing until it is too late. Most people have no practical way to know whether their screen is being read.
Who it is for
- People who regularly read messages or documents on public transport
- Anyone who works with confidential material outside a private office
- Privacy-conscious users who want an awareness signal, not a surveillance tool
What it is designed to do
The statements below describe the design direction of the product. Each one is confirmed against the released build before it is presented as shipping functionality.
-
On-device face detection
The awareness check is designed to run locally on the phone so that camera frames do not need to leave the device.
-
Vibration alerts
A short vibration is intended as the primary signal — quiet enough for a public space, immediate enough to act on.
-
Privacy dashboard
A single view that explains what the app looked at, when it ran and what it recorded — including nothing.
-
Intruder Snapshot
Planned as a premium option: an optional, locally stored capture taken at the moment an alert fires.
-
Trusted Faces
Planned as a premium option: people you deliberately register so the app can tell an intentional glance from an ordinary one.
Availability
In development. No store listing, release date or subscription price is being advertised until the build is complete and verified.
Platform: Android
Privacy
The design intent is that detection happens on the device and that images, if any are captured, stay in local storage under the user's control. Final permission requirements and data handling will be documented on the store listing and in the in-app privacy policy before release.
